Shatar Ulziibayar (Ш.Өлзийбаяр, 1976?-) is one of Mongolia's most internationally recognized living composers. Ulziibayar studied at the College of Culture in Mongolia, as well as the Moscow State University for Culture and Arts and the Gnesin Academy in Russia. His work is strongly influenced by Mongolian folk tradition, with several works for traditional instruments, particularly the morin khuur, the Mongolian bowed horsehead fiddle. Ulziibayar's "Rhapsody", written in 2015, won a competition organized for the 100th birth anniversary of pioneering Mongolian composer Sembiin Gonchigsumlaa. It has become a staple of the contemporary piano repertoire in Mongolia, and this live performance by Zaya Mandakhsuren (@zayapianist ) took place at the International 3rd Chopin Competition in the country.
