Shanghai is developing the north area of Xiaoyangshan Island into its largest automated container terminal.
For the terminal, the first six automated track cranes, each weighing 383 tons, were delivered Monday by Shanghai-based ZPMC from its Nantong branch dock.
They are the core equipment for the future automated operations at Xiaoyangshan North.
Independently developed by ZPMC, each of the track cranes has a rated load of 41 tons under the spreader, a span of 37 meters, and a lifting height of 21 meters.
Equipped with AI systems like 3D visualization, they will mainly serve yard operations and are a key link in the terminal's logistics chain.
This Xiaoyangshan North expansion includes a container terminal shoreline of 5,500 meters, featuring seven 70,000-tonnage and fifteen 20,000-tonnage container berths, with a designed annual throughput capacity of 11.6 million TEUs.
The project, with investments of over 10 billion yuan, will take around eight years to complete.
It is set to establish a new benchmark for the digital, intelligent, and sustainable transformation of Shanghai International Shipping Center's infrastructure.
