Great job putting this information together @shanestpierre. It's amazing to realize the globe theory was brought about by how we measure and see the world. Just because things seem to disappear over a curve doesn't mean the surface is curved. This video demonstrates this optical effect well. youtu.be/Hmwg4kKDhec

This video shows how boats are NOT going over the horizon. They do eventually get too far to resolve but that's the vanishing point for you! We can't see forever on our plane earth.
