This session is a discussion of Alex Billet's "Shake the City: Experiments in Space and Time, Art and Crisis"
---------------------------------------------------------------------

This seminar will discuss Alex Billet's "Shake the City: Experiments in Space and Time, Art and Crisis" recently published by 1968 Press. The panel will examine the current contours of the relationship between art, everyday life, and radical change in the "post-pandemic" iteration of late-late-capitalism. As debates sharpen around the division between media and “real life,” so do debates around the role of art and aesthetics in making life more livable. It has become increasingly clear that the aestheticization of violence and oppression is a key facet in both the maintenance of capitalism and the growth of the far-right. Thus, the question is posed about how the left’s relationship to art and human creativity can be strengthened to the end of envisioning communism as an actuality that can be feasibly fought for.
