The Shadow of the Erdtree trailer finally dropped and I now have a reason to live! In this video I spend an hour analyzing what we see and wildly speculating about what will be in the new Elden Ring DLC.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
-I will be updating this description with more information as I hear about it so consider checking back in!
-It is allegedly confirmed that there will be like 8 new weapon TYPES— not just new weapons, but new TYPES of weapons entirely. These include:
-Tachi (Great Katana)
-“A monk style melee weapon” which is probably the unarmed combat we saw
-“Dueling shield” (this is probably the shield we see in the fight with Messmer, doubling as both a shield and a more practical weapon)
-“Throwing dagger which turns all regular attacks into ranged attacks”

-There will be “a new kind of attack power (similar to Sekiro's) that you can level up, independent of your regular level. Makes it so that bosses are still tough if you come in at a ridiculous level and still have to explore to level the new thing up.” [credit above]
-“Land of shadow is filled with culture from before the Erdtree” including the 3 guys in a trenchcoat Lion Dance [credit above]
-DIABETOR’s speculation: Messmer is similar to “mesmerize” as in to hypnotize somebody. Miquella is known to be related to Bewitching Branches which let you mind control enemies. Maybe Messmer is Miquella, similar to how Radagon is Marika? Maybe Messmer is his tutor/teacher?
-I’m still betting that Messmer is Radagon’s brother and you won’t be able to convince me otherwise
-Speculation: From Reddit: Messmer is the third sibling, represented by the Smoldering Butterflies (Miquella: Nascent, Malenia: Aeonian). I’m conflicted this one— it seems pretty clear that Melina is the daughter of Marika and she is known to be the Kindling Maiden. However I think she could also be maybe a symbolic daughter of Marika, perhaps having originally been the Gloam Eyed Queen (as evidenced by her purple eye) and reborn or otherwise changed by the Erdtree/Marika.
-DIABETOR’s speculation: Miyazaki said in an interview that this shadow realm technically occupies the same space as the Lands Between. I bet that the person we see sitting in the dark throne room, who I speculated has something to do with the Nox, is specifically sitting in the Nameless Eternal City that we see in Deeproot Depths. The DLC is confirmed to not involve time travel but maybe the Land of Shadow is a mirror/parallel space that has an equivalent to that city in it?
