Playing Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. I am trying again to get the lord of the ring achievement by beating the test of the ring. It should be easier than the test of the wild which was a beast to beat.
This is my third attempt to get the achievement.
Considering this took me only 3 attempts in less than a day, this speed run challenge was considerably easier than test of the wild which took me several days to finally beat! Phew! I was pretty drained from the test of the wild.
My first strategy failed because I spent too much time gathering intel on all of the captains.
My second strategy failed because I slipped up and messed up 2 of the war chief missions which cost me a lot of time.
For this third attempt, my strategy was to go after and kill as many captains as I could and dominate some more powerful ones to get intel on the war chiefs. Then after the war chief missions are unlocked, I targeted killing off the warchiefs which would bring me closer to the remaining captains anyways. The war chief missions tend to waste the most amount of time too, so it's best to get them over with before trying to kill at the war chiefs in the last 15 minutes.
With the war chiefs dead, I would kill or brand the remaining captains so that I finally passed the test of the ring.
The branding uruks goal is really easy to meet especially since I would start branding all of the hoards of uruks that would rush me inside the fortresses. This would turn the tide against the war chiefs too and prevent random aggressive grunts from striking me while I'm concentrating on a chief or captain.
I was glad to find out that captains and war chiefs could die by your branded uruks and captains. In my second failed attempt, I failed because I fast forwarded time and the last captain was killed in a nemesis mission that I did not attend and this did not count as killing the last captain even though my branded captain killed him. 3 of my captains were also promoted to war chiefs, although this did not seem to change the 8/8 branded captains objective. I still failed anyways because I had 11/12 captains killed and the time ran out. My only hopes was that by fast-forward resolving the nemesis mission, it would kill count as the final captain kill. But it did not work :)
