‘Sgt. Haane’ is now in cinemas 🎥
From acclaimed filmmaker Tearepa Kahi (‘Muru’, ‘Mt. Zion’), this feature-length docu-drama tells the story of Sergeant Haane Manahi (Te Arawa, Ngāti Raukawa), a soldier of the 28th Māori Battalion whose extraordinary courage became the stuff of legend.
In April 1943, Manahi led a small group of soldiers united by whakapapa in a daring assault on the heavily fortified pinnacle at Takrouna, Tunisia. Facing more than 300 enemy troops, their mission was to secure the sheer-faced stronghold — an act of bravery remembered as one of the most remarkable feats of the war.
Blending dramatic re-enactments with interviews from descendants of the Māori Battalion, the film stars Alex Tarrant as Manahi, alongside Ryan O'Kane, Vinnie Bennett, and John Bach.
