I've seen videos of home sewing machines that cost $4,000 to $8,000 USD sewing leather. One would hope that a machine that cost so much would sew leather with ease. In this video I show how you can sew medium weight 3mm leather with an entry level Baby Lock BL-9 home machine. Although it is not the optimal machine, it is possible to use it for a few leather projects a year.
One key to sewing leather on a home machine is using the proper needle. A Leather Needle has a sharper head, so it will pierce the leather easier than any other needle on your home machine.
