In the finale episode of Severance’s first season, Mark’s (Adam Scott) innie recognized Ms. Casey (Dichen Lachman) from the office in his wedding photo at his sister’s house. He knows her as the recently fired/retired Wellness Director on the Severed Floor at Lumon. Over the season we learned that she was a part-time innie, and that her total life was only 107 hours long.
Mark’s main motivation for doing the severance procedure was the loss of his wife Gemma. Throughout the first season we see him struggle after her death. In the seventh episode we first saw that Ms. Casey looked exactly like her. This has been a big question since everyone around Mark appears to accept that she died in a car accident.

In this video we look at the most popular theories for what’s up with the Ms. Casey situation. Did Mark’s wife fake her accident and voluntarily become a test subject for Lumon? Is this a robot or clone of Gemma? Is Lumon taking bodies from the hospital so they can experiment on them on the testing floor?

Episode 9 ends on a big cliffhanger, but Apple TV+ has announced that Season 2 is coming. The season 1 finale provided a lot of answers, but most of the big mysteries are still intact. This video is a breakdown of what happened in the season 1 finale with a recap of the major plot points. We discuss what the ending means and discuss theories about Season 2.

In the season 1 finale Mark's innie awakens in Devon's home and finds himself talking to Harmony Cobel. While excusing himself to find Devon, he calls Cobel by name, alerting her that the OTC protocol has been activated. Cobel calls Milchick and has him check the security office. Mark privately reveals to Devon that he is in innie form; Devon tells him of his wife Gemma's death, and learns that who she knows as "Mrs. Selvig" is Mark's boss.

Irving wakes up in his apartment at the beginning of Episode 9, discovering his outie's paintings and military background, and finds a map and employee directory in the closet which he uses to locate Burt. Helly's innie wakes up at a Lumon gala where she learns that her outie is Helena Eagan - daughter of Lumon CEO Jame Eagan - who underwent severance to build public support for legalizing the procedure.

Cobel races to the gala and attempts to stop Helly from exposing the abuses the innies suffer while severed in her public speech. Milchick reaches the security office and cuts his way through the makeshift restraints Dylan has placed on the door. Before the overtime contingency is stopped, Helly gets onstage and tells the crowd of the innies' subjugation and torment; Irving arrives at Burt's house only to find he is married to another man; Mark finds a photo from his outie's wedding to Gemma, thereby discovering that she is who he knows at work as Ms. Casey, and runs to tell his sister that his wife is still alive.

From director and executive producer Ben Stiller and creator Dan Erickson comes “Severance.” Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself.

The series is written and created by Dan Erickson. Mark Friedman, Chris Black, John Cameron and Andrew Colville are executive producers alongside Erickson. Ben Stiller, Nicky Weinstock and Jackie Cohn executive produce through Red Hour Productions, and both Patricia Arquette and Adam Scott serve as producers. Endeavor Content serves as the studio.
