Kupari Bay, Croatia’s hotel graveyard.

Seven luxury hotels were built here on one of Dubrovnik’s stunning bays in the 1960’s, dedicated to the officers of the Yugoslav Army and national officials of Yugoslavia. Even the country’s leader, Josip Broz Tito, had his private villa here.

During the Balkan War in the 1990s, the complex of hotels was badly destroyed – first, it was attacked from the sea and afterward taken over by the Serbian Army. Bullet holes still scar the walls to this day.

At the beginning of the 2000s, the complex was left completely abandoned and has since been plundered of all its fixtures and furnishings, it remains an empty shell of its former self, still overlooking the same stunning view…
