Alongside showing you how to install WireGuard, we will also show you how to use the PiVPN script to generate a QR code for the tunnel. You will be able to scan this QR code on your device to add the tunnel.
WireGuard is an alternative to OpenVPN that has been gaining an increasing amount of popularity in recent times.
It offers a few advantages over OpenVPN. One of those being much faster connection speeds. A WireGuard connection can complete within milliseconds.
Another advantage is that it has a much smaller codebase. The smaller code means that it is much easier to manage, bugs, and security issues can be fixed much faster.
The only real downside to WireGuard is that there are some concerns about how private it is. To make faster connections the WireGuard software keeps track of the connecting IP addresses.
