Some of us calm our frazzled nerves with the solitude of the countryside. Oscar the Grouch (Caroll Spinney) relaxes with "A Little Grouch Music" (aka Grouchy Music in the Night), written by Tony Geiss, a parody of "The Music of the Night" from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" and Stephen Sondheim's musical "A Little Night Music" (for the title). Hoots the Owl (Kevin Clash) introduces us and the song by pointing out the sounds in the night. The song itself starts around 2:15, if you're in a hurry. Points for the designer that attached Oscar's nightcap just so on his face to mirror the Phantom's iconic mask. From Season 21 (Ep 2619), with mucho thanks to the musical @Sesame Maniac.
Bonus videos include the original 1925 silent movie version of "The Phantom of the Opera" with Lon Chaney and the most famous song from "A Little Night Music", a little tune Judy Collins had a smash hit with, "Send In the Clowns", this time by THE Broadway baby, Bernadette Peters, with Stephen Sondheim himself on the piano.
