I tried to do “thunder clap” sounds which I always called lightning strike. I use noise as sound source and cross modulate the filter using a VCO running a square wave and adjust the pulse wave.
I know it is possible to create a lot better lightning strike sounds using x-mod of the filter. I didn't have time and I’m not an FM guy so please enjoy.
