The Art of Nature - Germany | September in German Culture and Paganism - The Autumn Equinox and Mabon @theartofnaturegermany | Uploaded September 2022 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
September is my favorite month, because I have my Birthday in September :D In paganism and the anchient cultures of middle Europe the autumn equinox on September 22/23 plays an important role. The last harvest feast of the Celtic pagan year 'Mabon' takes place on and around this day. Mabon is all about the gratitude for the harvest and it was the sign to beginn with the preparations for winter. Mabon is celebrated with a big meal, that includes all the harvest goods.
The name of the month comes from the latin word "septem" ("seven"), because September was the seventh month in the anchient Roman calendar.
The spiritual meanings of September evolve all around gratitude and also transition and change, as it is the time when nature changes from summer and growth into winter and decline. It's also the time to reflect on yourself if all the goals and dreams you set up in the beginning of the year are already accomplished or if you have to work on some now, so you can be proud of yourself in the end of the year.
