Seoul's public transportation benefits are changing today as the new Climate Pass offers expanded discounts and refunds on transit fares.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government rolled out its new "Climate Pass" transit card on Tuesday.
This combines the city's exclusive transit benefits with the government's fare reimbursement program, "Everyone's Card," or K-Pass, with the aim of reducing confusion and making benefits easier to access.
The new system replaces Seoul's Climate Card, launched in 2024 as an unlimited transit pass for a fixed monthly fee.
Everyone's Card, meanwhile, covers public transportation nationwide, refunding part of the cost based on how much people spend.
For regular commuters, both have already helped ease monthly transport costs.
"I take both the bus and subway to commute to Gangnam. I got about 56-thousand won back from the pass this month, and it definitely helped ease the cost of my daily commute."
"I commute about an hour by subway. I've been using K-Pass for about two years, and since I qualify for the discount for young people, the monthly refunds really help with my living expenses."
The integration comes with much wider coverage.
"Seoul's flagship Climate Card was largely limited to local public transportation. But the new pass extends benefits nationwide, including the GTX commuter rail network and regional express buses."
The refund system is also getting simpler, automatically applying either a percentage refund or a fixed monthly rate, whichever saves commuters more.
It all comes down to 62-thousand won a month, or about 45 U.S. dollars.
Those below it get the standard refund rate, while those above it get anything beyond the limit refunded.
Discounts for young people are also being widened, with the age limit raised from 34 to 39.
The new pass also keeps Climate Card-only benefits, including Seoul's public bicycle, Ttareungi service.
Experts say the nationwide integration better reflects the basic concept of mobility.
"Nationwide coverage will benefit more public transit users and could also help reduce car use. The refund rates are high compared with other countries, and automatically choosing the better option will make it even more convenient. Securing stable funding from multiple sources will be key for sustainability."
Foreigners are also eligible for the card, and offers savings for longer-term visitors.
Current Climate Card users will need to switch cards, while Seoul residents with K-Pass can simply verify their residency, without getting a new one.

Lets start with South Koreans in MLB. A return for Song Sung-mun.
Right, he marked his return for the San Diego Padres with an RBI.
On Sunday, in a 5-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, the infielder went zero-for-2, but with an RBI, a walk and a steal.
Song was recalled from the minors just beforehand and was given a start at third base and batted ninth.
His RBI came at the top of the seventh, with the Padres up 2-1, hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to score Samad Taylor from third base.
Song was walked intentionally in the top of the ninth and then pulled off a double steal with Xander Bogaerts for his 13th of the season.
Meanwhile, Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants, also on Sunday, was involved in a doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks as number four hitter and right fielder.
In the first game, Lee went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs for his first multi-hit game in 10 days.
His first hit actually came against former SK Wyverns man Merrill Kelly.
The Giants lost 7-1, but they won the second game 7-2, with Lee going 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.
Sticking with baseball but looking at the KBO.
Were gearing up for the postseason now, which means the last time two Seoul rivals will meet in Jamsil.
Right, the regular season is ending soon.
That means there is now just one three-game series left between the Doosan Bears and the LG Twins, the two main Seoul rivals, to be played at the iconic Jamsil Stadium before it closes this year.
They meet from Tuesday through Thursday, with the Bears as the home team.
But both teams are playing for postseason spots -the Twins are fourth and the Bears are fifth.
With the playoff picture beginning to settle, the battle at the top is now the big story.

To football now. Could this be FC Seouls year?
Well, it certainly seems like it could be.
K League 1 leaders FC Seoul earned a 5-2 away win over 9-man Gwangju FC on Sunday.
With Ulsan HD beating Gimcheon Sangmu 3-1 the day before, it meant that Seoul needed to win to keep their 16-point lead.
Seoul last won the title in 2016, winning on the final day, but have never been this far ahead since around 2012.
As for Gwangju, its now 24 games since they last won a league match and look destined for a relegation playoff.
Elsewhere, there were draws between Bucheon and Anyang, Gangwon and Pohang, and Incheon and Jeonbuk, while Jeju maintained their solid form with a win over Daejeon.
K League 1 reaches Round 27 this weekend, meaning there are seven rounds to go in the regular season plus five more afterwards.
Its the last of the 12-team, split-system before K League 1 expands to 14 teams next year.
And finally, to golf.
Some decent results for Koreans on the LPGA and PGA tours.
Right, Kim Hyo-joo in particular,
who finished runner-up at the LPGA’s FM Championship in Massachusetts on Sunday, finishing 12-under par, two strokes behind China’s Yin Ruoning.
On the PGA Tour, Kim Si-woo and Kim Joo-hyung both tied for 14th at the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
Kim Si-woo’s result took his season earnings beyond 10 million U.S. dollars, which makes him the first South Korean to reach that mark in a single PGA Tour season.
