This is our first impressions of Semuc Champey in Guatemala in Central America in September 2022.
We also enjoyed our brief time in Coban (Cobán (Kekchí: Kob'an), fully Santo Domingo de Cobán) and Lanquin (San Agustín Lanquín) as well.

The name Semuc Champey comes from the Q'eqchi (ketch e) (also Quequchi or Kekchi) language and roughly means "where the river hides." The river that hides is the Cahabòn River which powers underneath. This site features a natural limestone bridge and limestone pools filled with turquoise water. The water cascades from one pool to the next through a series of waterfalls. This was declared a “natural monument” in 2005. Semuc Champey was highly recommend by locals and we are glad we were able to visit. It truly is a natural paradise.

El nombre Semuc Champey proviene del idioma q'eqchi (ketch e) (también quequchi o kekchi) y significa aproximadamente "donde se esconde el río". El río que se esconde es el río Cahabòn que corre por debajo. Este sitio cuenta con un puente de piedra caliza natural y piscinas de piedra caliza llenas de agua turquesa. El agua cae en cascada de una piscina a la siguiente a través de una serie de cascadas. Este fue declarado “monumento natural” en 2005. Semuc Champey fue muy recomendado por los lugareños y estamos contentos de haber podido visitarlo. Realmente es un paraíso natural. También disfrutamos nuestro breve tiempo en Coban y Lanquin.
