The Voting Rights Act of 1964 was a historic moment in American history. But it wasn't easy. The logistics of making history never are. The Selma to Montgomery march, the catalyst for the Act, took thousands of marchers and activists three attempts before they were successful. That meant long days and, occasionally, rainy nights.
