We’ve taste tested a lot of emergency food over the years, but this was the first time we were actually facing a crisis during a review. Snow is rare here in the South, but my wife and I found ourselves stuck at home, unable to go to town for food because of icy winter weather. Fortunately, this turned out to be the perfect opportunity to try some of the new self-heating food packs that Chef 5 Minute Meals recently sent our way. These kits are essentially like a Meal Ready to Eat (MRE), but unlike military MREs, they only include the main entrée and don’t come with any snacks or drinks. They seem ideal for a quick, hot snack or small meal on the go, and they’d be a great option for hiking, camping, backpacking, or any number of outdoor activities where cooking isn’t practical.
