Contrary to what people often think, self-harm isn’t usually an “attention seeking” or suicidal behavior. Instead, it is often pain seeking a place to go.

For many people, self-harm becomes a way to release emotions that feel too overwhelming, invisible, or impossible to explain out loud.

Talking about self-harm doesn’t mean you will give people the idea of harming themselves. Just like suicide, this topic needs to be addressed, not hidden.
