The shells look at first glance to be an innocent duo, but there’s a dark story that lies behind their shells. Oyster is in fact controlling Turtle, and many misinterpret him as an evil parasite, dominating Turtle against his will, but without Oyster, Turtle would’ve died long ago. Oyster brought Turtle back from the brink of death by overtaking his failing nervous system, which was was rapidly degrading after simply mistaking a plastic bag for a jellyfish. Now Turtle remains fully aware as Oyster is the brains behind his every move. They roam the oceans, rivers, and lakes unearthing lost treasures forgotten by the humans. They have collected hundreds of discarded gems, jewels, and coins together, and store them all in a secret underwater cave. Their collection isn’t motivated by greed, and the two don’t even realise the value of their discoveries. Oyster just wants to make Turtle happy in the only way he can; by showing him the beautiful shining colours that they find together.
