My understanding is that this version of the game was originally only available with Orchid Righteous 3D cards, making it extremely rare. However it's not that different to the original PC version -if you check my playthrough of that here: youtube.com/watch?v=MCpJ72H-ETg
You'll see that the Direct3D version has a better framerate, plus some extra effects (look at the car windows) and some stuff that doesn't matter (omg, the clouds are different!!). It's still SEGA Rally so it's still great, but if you've never played this version you aren't missing out on that much. There is a patch available which upgrades the original version to the Direct3D version, so search the net for it if you want to try it out. This game always seems to work no matter what PC I use, the only oddities I encountered was that the credits music cut out at the supervisor credit, and the name entry theme played over the game over screen.
I finally used the Lancia Stratos. This car is an unlockable bonus, but as a kid I hated it -I found it really difficult to control over the other cars, and never used it. I finally gave it a shot after all these years and it wasn't too difficult to deal with the steering now. Plus it's really fast as well, making it relatively easy to beat the game with.
