Ezekiel is God’s man. He saw God, and it changed his life. In Hebrews 11.23-24, Moses saw God, and it made him satisfied and no longer discontented. He depicts the type of servant the Lord needs. Three aspects of his life bear noting in our study. Genuine ministry for God will always build on these elements. We find the glory of God 12x in chapters 1-11 but zero times in 12-42. Why? His glory departed!
1. God's servants are SUBMITTING to God. Ezekiel 1:3 the word of the LORD came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and there the hand of the LORD came upon him. (NASB); Ezekiel 1:20 Wherever the spirit was about to go, they would go in that direction. And the wheels rose close beside them; for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels. (NASB)
2. God's servants are SEEING God Ezekiel 1:22-28 Now over the heads of the living beings there was something like an expanse, like the awesome gleam of crystal, extended over their heads. 23 And under the expanse their wings were stretched out straight, one toward the other; each one also had two wings covering their bodies on the one side and on the other. 24 I also heard the sound of their wings like the sound of abundant waters as they went, like the voice of the Almighty, a sound of tumult like the sound of an army camp; whenever they stood still, they dropped their wings. 25 And there came a voice from above the expanse that was over their heads; whenever they stood still, they dropped their wings. 26 Now above the expanse that was over their heads there was something resembling a throne, like lapis lazuli in appearance; and on that which resembled a throne, high up, was a figure with the appearance of a man. 27 Then I noticed from the appearance of His loins and upward something like glowing metal that looked like fire all around within it, and from the appearance of His loins and downward I saw something like fire; and there was a radiance around Him. 28 As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the surrounding radiance. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell on my face and heard a voice speaking. (NASB)
3. In verses 22 to 28 we have Five Absolutes about God:
• THE MAJESTY GOD IS GLORIOUS v. 22, 27 “awesome gleam of crystal . . . glowing metal . . . like fire . . . like a rainbow” all of these sights were given to Ezekiel to remind him. As Psalm 29:2, 10 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in holy array. 10 The LORD sat as King at the flood; Yes, the LORD sits as King forever. (NASB)
• THE AUTHORITY GOD IS ABSOLUTE.v. 26a “throne” seeing this throne taught Ezekiel that
• GOD IS SUPREME IN SUPERIORITY v. 26b “high up” speaks to Ezekiel. The throne of God is atop all else. Nothing is beyond it or above it. God reigns!
• THE IMAGE OF GOD IS CHRIST v. 26c “like a man” this sight God gave Ezekiel was that the. It was the reminder that our Lord Jesus Christ is as Hebrews 1:3 declares, “And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; (NASB)”.
• THE PROMISES OF GOD ARE SURE v. 28 “like a rainbow” this reminder created by God as a sign that.
