Volo Museum is only 50 miles from Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, a half a pack of candy cigarettes from our gift shop, it's dark and I'm wearing sunglasses. Hit it! Today's movie car is the 1974 Dodge Monaco sedan or as you know it, the Bluesmobile from the movie Blues Brothers! The Bluesmobile was a real California Highway patrol car that was repainted to resemble a Mount Prospect police car and used Hollywood makeup to add the rust and the damage. As Elwood would say, it's got a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension and cap shocks. It also had a 440 cubic inch V8 engine which was capable of reaching speeds up to 120 mph. The car was actually driven by Dan Aykroyd in the movie’s high-speed chase scenes. Aykroyd is a trained stunt driver and was able to handle the car’s high speeds and dangerous maneuvers. All four wheels had individually controlled brakes to allow the sharp twists and turns the car performed. Fun additions like the police siren, a megaphone and speakers that allowed the Blues Brothers to play music as they drove. Released in 1980, the Blues Brothers set the record with 104 cars destroyed! As of 2020 it sits in 8th place with Transformers 3 destroying 532 automobiles! All of the car chase scenes and stunts were real and nothing was created with CGI. 40 stunt drivers were flown in every weekend to do the work. Thank you for watching these videos every day and I can't wait to show you the next movie car tomorrow. Do you know what happens if you sing the Blues backwards? It stops raining, your wife returns and you make a bunch of money!
