The Greek word for seducing is Planos, meaning wanderer, seducer, deceiver, and impostor.
Doctrines of demons are seductive by design because their teachings come from the wicked heart of the great seducer.
The enemy's doctrines seduce people with the promise of power, influence, recognition, and knowledge, deceiving even devout followers of Jesus into believing they are doing good. However, those who heed the doctrines run the risk of forfeiting their souls, and if they are leaders, they are also forfeiting the souls of their sheep.
2 Timothy 2:16-17 NASB
But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness, and their talk will spread like gangrene.
Gangrene is a medical condition where the body loses its blood supply, and as a result, body tissues die off.
Seducing spirits skillfully manipulate scripture to justify unrighteous behavior, encouraging first with small compromises, and eventually causing some believers and even some elect to be deceived, stumble and fall away from the faith, losing their blood supply and dying off, falling from the body, like gangrene.
Many times in the Bible, reference to the adulteress women is not referring to an actual woman in the flesh, although they do apply, but rather God is speaking about His church, the lost church who looks beautiful on the outside but inwardly are worshipers of idols, false gods, graven images, and encourages the deeds of the flesh…
Galatians 5:19-21 NASB
… which are: immorality (fornication, whoredom), impurity (impure motives), sensuality, idolatry (image worship), sorcery (magic, enchantment, drugs), enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions (division), factions (religious sects), envying, drunkenness, carousing (sex in groups), and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
If I asked you to list some individuals within the Bible who were possessed by seducing spirits, you would probably think of both women named Jezebel (The Queen in 1st and 2nd Kings and the prostitute from Thyatira in Revelations 2) - Did you know there are two persons named Jezebel? They both led their followers into idol worship. However, the first seduced with intimidation and power and the promise of power, while the second with seductive teachings and sexual sin. Also, you may think of Delilah (the lover who betrayed Sampson with sexual seduction), or Potiphar's wife (the seducer of Joseph).
But not all seducing spirits are feminine or use sexuality to manipulate.
Many of the Bible's greatest seducers were armed with charisma and skilled with persuasive speech, using flattery, presenting some sort of mysterious “knowledge and wisdom” that they claimed no one else possessed or those who were empowered through sorcery and divination.
Today, the seducing spirits have deployed the same tactics in the Church,
- using beauty, talents, and sexuality to tantalize,
- the deeds of the flesh to compromise,
- the lust of the eyes to create envy,
- persuasive speech to blind and deafen,
- flattery to pacify,
- strange fire, signs, and wonders through - witchcraft to bewitch,
- false prophecy and false words of knowledge to mesmerize,
- doctrines of demons to mislead,
- displays of demonic power to captivate,
- blatant hypocrisy to promote sin,
- And heretical knowledge, wisdom, traditions of man, and philosophy to puff up.
