Security organizations rely on specialized teams for vulnerability management, patching, threat hunting, and other security functions. Yet much of the time and career investment can go toward learning the tools used to perform those jobs.

That expertise can become so deeply embedded that professionals begin identifying with the technology itself—becoming a particular platform administrator rather than focusing on the underlying security skill.

The result can be highly specialized knowledge that doesn't necessarily transfer when the technology changes.
