In a world facing the twin existential threats posed by climate change and nuclear weapons, advanced Generation IV nuclear reactors can meaningfully contribute to solving both challenges. However, because of the ever-present potential for misuse of nuclear materials, there are risks involved, and incorporating nuclear security into designs is necessary to deploy these novel reactor types on a wider scale.

The World Institute of Nuclear Security, with the support of NTI, recently published this Special Report on the Security of Advanced Reactors. This presentation includes key findings from the report and a discussion about ways to include security in advanced reactors.

The panel includes:

Laura S.H. Holgate, Ambassador (ret.), Vice President for Materials Risk Management, NTI

Jackie Kempfer, Senior Policy Advisor, Climate and Energy Program, Third Way

Daniel Johnson, Senior Advisor, North America, World Institute of Nuclear Security
