Securing many-to-many communications in V2X environments is complex. While the SAE J2735 Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) and National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol (NTCIP) standards guide data exchange between Onboard Units (OBUs), Roadside Units (RSUs), and traffic controllers, limited encryption, authentication, and segmentation leave these systems exposed, particularly at critical intersections and pedestrian zones.
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure, such as traffic cabinets housing network equipment, is highly vulnerable to tampering due to limited physical security. Easily accessible cabinets allow rogue devices to infiltrate and intercept data, posing significant risks without effective monitoring.
Edge computing and network redundancy are essential to meet V2X’s low-latency and resilience requirements. This session covers Cisco’s layered security strategies, including encryption, threat containment, and monitoring, along with virtual RSU and OBU solutions to accelerate secure Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) adoption and protect V2X infrastructure from cyber threats.
