A Day of Small Things | Secondhand Books Shopping in Carlisle and Wigtown, Holiday in North West England and Scotland @adayofsmallthings | Uploaded March 2022 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
We went on a short holiday to South West Scotland (an area called Dumfries and Galloway) via a city in the North West of England. The secondhand bookshop, Bookcase, in Carlisle had four floors covered floor to ceiling in books. In Galloway, we stayed in Kirkcudbright (pronounced 'Kirk-coo-bray') and found the house where Lord Peter Wimsey lived in Dorothy L. Sayers' novel 'Five Red Herrings', but we didn't visit the crime scene in the end. We then visited Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town on a very cold and wet day: The Book Shop, Byre Books, Well Read Books and the Old Bank Bookshop.
