The SeaWorld Rescue team recently returned this elephant seal to his big blue ocean home. Our experts are on call 24/7/365, partnering with multiple government agencies to rescue, rehabilitate, and return animals in need. But none of this would be possible without the continued support of our partner agencies, park guests, Pass Members, and dedicated team members.
Northern elephant seals spend 9 months of the year in the ocean. During this time, they are diving to depths of 1,000 to 2,500 feet for 20-30 minute intervals. They’re able to float to conserve energy and only gather in colonies on sandy beaches during the breeding season. The SeaWorld Rescue team carefully chooses return locations at appropriate depths with good food supply to ensure the animals have what they need to survive.
