Yuka Kitamura and Alex Roe present Seasons, a collaboration of easy listening and emotive compositions portraying each season. It's been a few years since we first talked about the idea of working together but in 2021 we were finally able to do it, and to my surprise it became a small album! I think now was the perfect time to do it and I hope everyone enjoys this album as much as we enjoyed writing it.
It's not the usual collaborative effort either. We first chose which were our favourite seasons: Kitamura chose Spring and Winter and I chose Summer and Autumn (although I think we had to discuss that a bit haha). It starts with Spring which Kitamura started and we passed the song back and forth like a relay. And I started Summer which we passed back and forth too. I wonder if you can tell who takes over from who? Then for the other two seasons we wrote the songs ourselves but tried to emulate the other persons style, so I tried to write an Autumn song in Kitamura's style and she wrote a Winter song in my style. I'm very proud of the result and it was a really fun way to work together, I would be very honoured to work together again some day.
(Let me use these brackets to just fanboy a little and realize I got to write an album with one of my favourite composers, and someone who's music I've admired and remixed across some of my favourite games of all time...thank you Kitamura! You're the best! And just in case anyone is unsure who Kitamura is, she is Fromsoft's composer for Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, Déraciné, Sekiro and Elden Ring)
