Each year, they return to nest under the cover of darkness but bright, artificial lights can confuse hatchlings, leading them away from the water and putting their lives at risk. The city of Pompano Beach enforces Lighting Compliance for all beachfront residences and businesses. Lights visible from the beach should be shielded, low, and long-wavelength — think amber or red."
Shield it so light doesn’t spill onto the sand. Dim it to the lowest level needed for safety and change bulbs to turtle-friendly colors.
