When temperatures plunge, sea turtles can become so chilled that their bodies slow down, leaving them too weak to swim and vulnerable to boat strikes or getting stranded onshore. Bad news for a vulnerable species!
Along the Texas coast, Texas Game Wardens, TPWD staff, and partner organizations have been racing to rescue these cold-stunned sea turtles. Game Wardens use drones to locate the turtles and direct crews to their location.
The turtles are taken to rehabilitation centers to recover before being released back into the wild.
The large turtle in the video is estimated to weigh 80-100 pounds.
