Here are two fun fiddle tunes - Scully's (or Scollay's) Reel, and Farewell to Chernobyl. I hope you like them! =D I've only heard Scully's Reel played more like a hornpipe, but I guess it can be played like a reel, too!
I was asked if I could try to learn Catriona's version of Farewell to Chernobyl that is on her Opus Blue CD, so here is my attempt! =) She plays it faster on her album, but I couldn't add a hornepipe-like swing to Scully's Reel if I went the same speed. Farewell to Chernobyl also sounds really neat when played as a hornpipe, too!
I learned Scully's Reel from a jam I used to go to when I was younger. Since then, I've never been to a jam that plays the B part like this. It makes me wonder if I actually learned something else instead of Scully's Reel? If you recognize it as a different tune, please let me know~! It's tricky tracking down the names for these tunes - it's not like we can just Google the Lyrics.. =/
My camera does some weird splitting of clips when the files reach 4 GB. I go through a billion attempts trying to play a song, so the camera does a lot of file-splitting! =P Usually it is fine, but sometimes it messes up the take.. This take blips out half way through the video, but it was the only take that I played the tunes all the way through without completely messing them up. Hopefully it's not too noticeable! ^__^;;
While mixing the violin audio with the backing track, I noticed my G string was flat (and my E string was a bit sharp..)! x_x It makes me cringe a bit, but that's life! ^-^
Once I work out Farewell to Chernobyl at a slower pace and organize my thoughts on how to play the tune, I'll post a tutorial for it!
