Courteney Cox has officially been confirmed to be returning to Woodsboro as Gale Weathers in 'Scream' 2021, AKA Scream 5, in the latest production update.

Since hearing the rumors way back in November about Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette all being in negotiations to return for Scream 5, it's been the subject of much debate whether or not the old characters would be involved in the plot of the New Scream Movie.
But since hearing of David Arquette's (Sheriff Dewey Riley) casting several months back, there hasn't been any official statement made for the other two OG characters. Until now that is. Courteney Cox confirmed on her Instagram account that she will be coming back.
On top of that, an official Scream Twitter account has been activated, welcoming back Gale Weather's portrayer. Scream 5 director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillette (Radio Silence Productions) also expressed their excitement for the opportunity to work with the "Friends" star.
It appears for right now that the former real-life couple are the only actors attached, even though Neve Campbell has all but said she's signed on. Based on casting and production leaks, we know that there are a minimum of 8 new characters being introduced, but as of right now it seems that no roles have been cast.
It is uncertain of how the old cast will integrate into the new cast, but based on the little information we have received from the official Scream 5 updates, it looks like the story will be set in Woodsboro, once again. Scream 5 writers Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt have already finished the script, with original writer Kevin Williamson overseeing the movie as an executive producer. The film is currently scheduled to move into production in October in its filming location of Wilmington, North Carolina, aiming for a 2021 release date (Exactly 25 years from the original Scream).
