Picture a time before Eurovision. Planet Earth was a dark and desolate place. A famine of cheesiness swept the land. But somewhere in the far reaches of Switzerland a small contest of nations began, a contest known as The Eurovision Song Contest. The Gods of Cheese saw that it was good and decided to form a super-group from their only begotten children, Freddy and Frida. There eternal mission is to spread the Euro-pop message to every man, woman and child; Peace, Love and Cheesiness.
The Rise and Fall of the Hamburger Queen – Ashleigh Owen
In 2013 Ashleigh was crowned Hamburger Queen at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern for her beauty, talent and cookery skills. Her talent piece, “A Fat Girl’s History of Dance”, expanded into a full one woman show for a quasi-autobiographical story of The Hamburger Queen.
Inspired by her own personal success, Ashleigh takes you on a journey through her life: from Liverpool to London, from Cottage Chicken to Nandos via comedic characterizations, dazzling dance routines, and a show stopping voice (obviously she can do it all).
FADoubleGOT – Jamal Gerald
Inspired by the black LGBT experiences of the New York ballroom culture, this autobiographical piece focuses on the ups and downs of pride and self-loathing. Contains strong language, drugs and sexual references.
Jamal is a Performance Artist based in Leeds. He’s been writing and performing since 2007. His practice focuses on identity and lived experiences, with the usage of storytelling, spoken word and live art. His work is conversational, controversial and is a celebration of individuality.
