Here’s a very rare glimpse at some post-Chapter 1 content that was developed for Overclocked. Around this point in development, we had decided to change Guardian Rock into a Modern level called Guardian Quake, which was slated to be one of the levels in Chapter 2; while I don’t really remember what the plot context actually was, the stage revolved around Sonic being chased by a phantom clone of Shadow who would attack the player and impede their progress. I also remember at one point this level was renamed to Breakout Pursuit, which is a bit more fitting considering the gameplay context, though that doesn’t appear to have been in this build.
There are some other early attempts at custom gimmicks in here as well, such as Phantom Ruby-corrupted dash rings and platforms that injure the player. The platform asset actually made it all the way into the final mod, but it was repurposed for the sliding obstacles in the final boss.
Overall the stage is a mess as you would expect, but it’s one of the more interesting scrapped Overclocked stages to look back on, especially since the idea of Shadow attacking the player throughout the stage found its way into the Re-imagined version of Sunset Heights in the long run.
