The Scottish Thistles took part in the 2026 Melrose 7s as invitational guests. The men’s and women’s development teams were led by Ciaran Beattie and Claire Cruickshank.

Beattie’s 12-man squad defeated Musselburgh, Peebles, Melrose Rugby and Kelso RFC in the knockout stages before defeating Edinburgh Academicals RFC 22-10, thus being named this year’s 1883 Centenary Cup winners.

Cruickshank’s squad narrowly missed out on a final against the Monaco Umusa’s due to a 5-point difference. Claire speaks fondly of the benefits this tournament has had on the young squad and reflects on her time in the recent Women’s Six Nations campaign.
