The Shanghai Cooperation Organization marks 25 years of its establishment as leaders of its 10 member nations gather for the 26th SCO Summit in Bishkek. From its origins as the Shanghai Five in 1996 to its expansion into security, trade, connectivity, counterterrorism and economic cooperation, the SCO has evolved into a major Eurasian grouping.

India joined the SCO as a full member in 2017 and has pushed for stronger action against cross-border terrorism while promoting cooperation in startups, traditional medicine, digital inclusion and people-to-people ties. At the Bishkek Summit, India’s priorities include security, connectivity, trade, energy and economic opportunities across Central Asia.
