Don't graft until the green shoots of spring appear. Practice on waste wood, ideally apple prunings, until you get excellent live wood to live wood every time. Sharp, thin clean knife (Opinel number 6 is perfect) Use grafting wax where necessary, tie in well with polythene strip. Success is down to timing and technique rather than luck
