This is a species of flower, called the Schweinitz's sunflower, endemic to the piedmont region of North Carolina and South Carolina.
This specific plant was found on the Baldy Rock Heritage preserve in Cleveland county South Carolina.

its one of the rarest sunflower species in the United States.

Its scientific name is Helianthus schweinitzii.
