Sort of a "Nice Things pt. 2" if you will. I was CHILLING in England this past November and wanted a nice and slow one to complement my time there. I particularly like the chorus of this jawn. The line about folding tables was inspired my Schitt's Creek where one of the characters says something about having all their possessions on folding tables in a tag sale. I liked that imagery and ran with it! Much love fam (:
Lyrics:
He said he was 80
In the blue house with the tag sale in the front
And maybe I could swing by and take a look after lunch
I was about 18 when I showed up expecting mostly junk
But he was selling nice things, real nice things
He said
My life's displayed on a folding table
It's all for sale except a book of fables
I've spent my time in a check out line
Still got a lot to learn
You can find the price on a yellow label
But rest assured it won't make you stable
You could fill your house with the secondhand
But the second hand still turns
Your hair will turn white but only once
So give up your nice things while you're young
My hair has gone white I'm almost done
I'll give up my nice things 'fore I'm gone
She said she was fading
And aging, over chardonnay at brunch
Not hazy, just crazy that her life became her stuff
So she told me to sell it all on the front porch no fuss
Sell all her nice things, real nice things
She said
Put my life on a folding table
All for sale except a book of fables
I've spent my time in the check out line
Still got a lot to learn
You could write the price on a yellow label
But tell 'em all it won't make 'em stable
They could fill their house with the secondhand
But the second hand still turns
Your hair will turn white but only once
So give up your nice things while you're young
My hair has gone white I'm almost done
I'll give up my nice things 'fore I'm gone
