One of Franz Schubert's masterpieces of lieder, Der Erlkönig is also one of the most frightening pieces of classical music ever written! New piano duet transcription by Scott Meek, video editing by Clare Yuan, and performed by The Meeks Duo.
This arrangement promises not to cause injuries, as all the repeated octaves and chords are changed into tremolos!

The four characters in the original poem by Goethe are represented in different registers and textures, made more pronounced by the 4-hand texture. The narrator's neutral tone is mostly in the middle register (except the climax at the end), the father's calm and reassuring tone is in the bass, the child's fright is represented by the shrill upper register, and the erlking's sweetly alluring tone is in the upper register, mostly in major keys and with light textures.
