2 really small videos I made, showing my first 2 attempts ever at greenscreening with a game - the new Schoolmate by Illusion - and 'real life' from my camcorder.
The first video (in the mess which is my room) was just a very basic test that I kinda knew what I was doing. It was done by me just hitting print-screen repeatedly in the game and my comp's not exactly fast enough for that to turn out smooth.
The second one (sitting room) is where I used an HDD-recorder to record output from my graphics card so it can be smoother. Also here I tried to get a little more advanced by moving towards the person and looking up and down them, not just spinning around them.
Still needs improvements though (especially if you look when the view starts panning back up her, she gets out of sync with the background from my camcorder and 'lifts off the floor').
I have uploaded them here because it is too slow IMO for people to DL from my site, although if you really want them, they're in here (high resolution - the 3.6 and 3.1 MB files) :

I was recently introduced to the rhythm-based game osu!. Since its a clone of a game from the Nintendo DS which takes advantage of the touch-sensitive screen, I decided to try to emulate that playing style.
I know that this beatmap is really not hard compared to most, but my Yes! was due to the fact that this was the first time Id got a 100% accuracy rating.
The songs full name is 「博麗神社町内会音頭」 (Hakurei Shrine Neighborhood Association Marching Song).
The wires coming out of the pen are soldered to the battery terminals inside, and have a D-size battery (which you can see on my desk) connected on the other end. I did that because the internal battery compartment of the pen had a connection so bad that the tablet was simply unusable when using it.
I dont think I have the input/song sync set correctly since there is quite a noticable delay between pressing the pen and the game detecting that (you can see, and even sometimes hear the tapping at times, in the video). I set the offset to the same as what I set StepManias to, and, since both games use DirectSound, I thought that that would make the offset perfect here too, but clearly thats not the case.")

Just a few clips of Dnstjes remote-controlled yukkuri at Animecon in the Netherlands last weekend. It never fails to entertain. This time, he made a Yumekui Merry (Merry Nightmare) hat for it, making it a yumekuri!

Ive added support for reverbs to Bawami, my MIDI player. Also, theres a new internal view here - scrolling text which shows every MIDI message played, and how it is interpreted. There are dozens of other changes, too, but the only other one audible in this video is support for the maracas percussive instrument (actually a tambourine in the original music).
This is my MIDI software synth BaWaMI (Basic Waveform MIDI), so-named because it makes all its sound from one of 6 basic waveforms (sine, square, triangle up/down, saw or noise) with one low/high-pass filter applied (and now, reverb too). Ive not yet released it yet*, as there are still issues that need to be fixed before it goes public, but Ill keep uploading these preview videos as I make improvements. =)
Here, its playing a MIDI (which I didnt make) of the music 「空に光る」 (Shining in the Sky), from the anime Clannad (I believe its from the anime rather than the visual novel).
Channel 9 is supposed to play as percussion here, but my program currently only supports percussion on channel 10, so I told Bawami to at least play it as something percussive-sounding (a taiko drum).

An attempt at remaking the Alstroemeria Records remix of Bad Apple!!, the stage 3 theme from Touhou 04: Lotus Land Story. It took about 8 days in total. I added a lot of improvisation during the main chorus part. Major thanks to my brother (Steeeven1 on YouTube) for playing the guitar part, and going from never having heard it before, learning it, and having it recorded in less than 2 hours.
The looping backing part which I played on the keyboard is seriously annoying to play, so I put some lights on to annoy everyone else. ...No, not really. I just thought they livened things up a bit. xD
This is a birthday present to someone who finds the original version of Bad Apple!! awesome. I hope this can live up to that...

I tried to remake this thrash metal track originally made by my brother, as a MIDI for the Roland Sound Canvas synth! ...Then, I realised that he still hasnt uploaded it himself yet. Maybe Ill have to poke him to do that so you can hear what my sucky attempt at recreating the guitar solo was supposed to sound like. It also has screaming vocals, but yeah, thats not going to happen in a MIDI file.
I got to try something Ive never done before - a compressed effect on the percussion to make it sound more powerful, by turning down the cymbals when the kick and other bassy percussion plays. Because all those curves spam up the view of control changes at the bottom of the screen, I hid those ones at times in this video.

He was kind enough to give me access to the individual layers in his track, so I didnt have to struggle to hear notes hidden underneath other notes, which is what I normally have to struggle with when making MIDIs. He even gave me the original drum MIDI track, but that meant I had to set up my own user drum kit for the SC-88Pro that was compatible with the drums software he uses. The fact that the synth only has 2 discrete overdrive channels means that it sounds a little awkward during the transitions to/from the guitar solo. Plus, solos are always hard to transcribe anyway.
All in all, it was a fun challenge! I ended up only using 8 MIDI channels (3 for percussion), which is the least ever in a MIDI Ive made for this synth. I usually end up using at least 15 out of 16. As for the video itself, there are several fails because my old laptop died and Ive clearly not got stuff set up correctly on my new one yet.

Something a little different this time. I had a burst of nostalgia and got this theme stuck in my head, so I decided to try to remake it for the SC-88Pro synth. Its the first MIDI Ive made in less than 18 hours (including sleep)! Its also the first Ive made for the 88P which doesnt use all the sound channels (4 are untouched), despite using 3 just for trying to emulate the FM snare. And the first that messes around with time signatures to keep in-sync with the original while still having the notes align sensibly in my MIDI editor...
This is a remake of the music from the DOS version of the game Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk. It was released on many different platforms, and Im sure the instruments vary a lot on the different versions, but Ive only ever played the DOS version. It used AdLib music (technically, the Yamaha OPL2 FM synth).
Ive seen some remixes of this, but I tried to stay faithful to the original (including overlapping notes, monophonic channels and notes that get cut because of the limitations of the AdLib hardware). Originally, I was going to use a synth trumpet sound to really match the original, but I couldnt find a suitable FM-style harpsichord to go along with it, and synth trumpets sounded stupidly out-of-place when paired with the realistic harpsichord, so I had to go for modern-sounding brass instruments.

After 4 months of not even touching this video, I realised I was never going to get it finished due to a massive lack of motivation. However, it is at least complete enough to cover the details of the circuits used in my Custom StepMania Lights, which you can then build into any cabinet you like, which I suppose is what most people who asked me for a tutorial actually wanted.
Please watch in HD to be able to see more in the detailed illustrations. Sorry in advance for the sucky quality of the photos though - I didnt have my HD camcorder when I started making this video, so I just used my PSPs camera.
My lights are designed to work with my own freeware program StepMania Player, which you can get here:

As well as playing simfiles by itself, my program can also be used to control the lights while you play StepMania, each light being triggered by your keypresses in-game.
When configured correctly, StepMania version 3.9 Plus can also control the lights directly. However, as you see in the video, it flashes all 4 bulb together, not separately. In the video, the leftmost bulb doesnt light up because a motor is connected inside the box, in place of the bulb (I like messing around).
I hope this is at least of some use to someone. Sorry that I never finished it, but Im releasing it now having started working on it over a year ago, which is just ridiculous considering how little material there actually is in it.")
