Metabolic Mind | Schizophrenia: Genetics or Energy Dysfunction? - Robert McCullumsmith MD PhD @metabolicmind | Uploaded December 2022 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
Are symptoms of schizophrenia due to our genes or an energy dysfunction in our brain? It’s likely that both contribute, which could drastically change how we understand and treat schizophrenia. Addressing energy dysfunction with metabolic treatments, including a ketogenic diet, could dramatically improve hallucinations, psychosis, and other symptoms of schizophrenia.

Dr. Robert McCullumsmith is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience and Associate Vice Chair of Translational research at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He discusses the intersection of genetics, energy metabolism, and schizophrenia.
