Today's journey follows the southern section of Interstate 390, beginning near Sonyea in Livingston County and continuing south for about 34 miles to Interstate 86 in Steuben County.
Although I-390 stretches roughly 75 miles between Rochester and New York's Southern Tier, this video focuses on its most scenic portion. Along the way, we'll travel through two very different valleys, each shaped by the glaciers that transformed this region at the end of the last Ice Age.
Interstate 390 occupies a unique position in New York State. To the east lies the Finger Lakes region, famous for its deep lakes, vineyards, and tourism. To the west are the rolling hills of the Allegheny Plateau. This highway follows the boundary between those landscapes, offering views that combine broad agricultural valleys, forested ridges, and distant hilltops.
