Film Score and More | Scenes Re-Scored: Iron Man - Driving With The Top Down/HTTYD - Test Drive @FilmScoreandMore | Uploaded July 2018 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
This is the “Driving with the Top Down” scene (named for the song that’s technically named for a different scene to add confusion) of Marvel’s “Iron Man” crossed with composer John Powell’s “Test Drive” from Dreamworks’s “How To Train Your Dragon”.
This is a little experiment I started back in the spring; I wanted to hear this song with this scene so I cut the beginning of the scene for time, I cut the sound out the scene and synced the song with the moment the boot jet fails. And... that’s pretty much it. I actually didn’t leave any more changes on this video because I wasn’t sure there was anything left to change. I think it works really well because both this scene and the “Test Drive” scene of HTTYD have the same plot structure; it’s a test flight, things are looking good, they test their altitude limits, exceed their altitude limits, fall for a bit, regain control, fly to safety, and then there’s some sort of joke at the end of the scene like a less-than-happy landing. I’ve never taken any film classes so I don’t know if there’s a term for this kind of structure or the less-than perfect ending. Maybe it’s just “realism”.
This is the part where I provide relevant video links: I don’t think this first one is the exact video I used for this but it’s the same scene in 1080p so here you go!

I do not own the rights to this film, scene, or this song. All belongs to Disney/Marvel, Dreamworks, and maybe John Powell. I don’t actually know how all that works but I can assure you; I own none of this! No copyright infringement intended.
