Episode 003 - Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Robert Zemeckis’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one of the most iconic examples of the Live Action/Animation genre, and it so happens to be an amazing film overall that showcases fantastic writing, acting, cinematography and scoring.
In this Scene Study, we look at the history of live action and animation going all the way back to the year 1900 so we can see the foundation that was laid down for Who Framed Roger Rabbit to step up and push the technique into a whole new form.
Then we dive into a little unassuming scene in the film that shows why Who Framed Roger Rabbit isn’t just a technical marvel, but a brilliant film all around.
This unique film will always be an example of an un-compromised vision. A stellar filmmaker somehow made an adult-skewing film noir tale about murder and corruption in golden era Hollywood, and was able to use both Disney and Warner Bros characters within the film. A feat that would be impossible in 2019, but thankfully we’ll always have Who Framed Roger Rabbit to look back on.
