On September 21, 2012, the space shuttle was being delivered to Los Angeles, and it did a loop over JPL. A bunch of people working on the NASA Mars Science Laboratory mission decided to watch the shuttle fly-over from the Mars Yard - the area where rover drivers test how well "scarecrow" versions of Mars rover can climb over rocks, navigate loose sand, and get stuck. Here is some video footage of the scarecrow rover coming out to watch Endeavor.
