Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is in the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano (northwestern Wyoming, USA).
Sawmill Geyser is the namesake of the Sawmill Group in Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin. It is a frequently erupting, moderate-sized, fountain-type geyser, typically with long durations. Eruptions consist of brief, overlapping, medium-sized, splashing bursts of water. Unusually, from late January 2017 to late June 2021, Sawmill Geyser was dormant.
Seen here is a time lapse video of Sawmill Geyser in the afternoon of 9 August 2025. The first Sawmill eruption was at 1:46 PM, with a duration of less than one minute. Uncertain Geyser erupted from the back side of Sawmill at 2:18 PM for about 5 minutes. A ~2.5 hour long Sawmill eruption occurred from 2:52 to 5:24 PM. The highest water reached about 46 feet.
