I like to save seeds to plant for the next season.
Today I was looking for something to cover the heads with to prevent birds and large insects from eating the seeds. Problem was that I didn't want to hold moisture in and cause the seeds to mold. A bath loofah was the perfect solution and something extra that I already had on hand!
The loofah was already circular and I only had to cut off a section, tie a knot at one end and slip it over the sunflower! The springy nature of the material holds it in place, but you could also tie it on the back of the head.
Now the seeds can finish maturing on the plant, and I'll come back to collect them once they have dried out.
